Description
This is the next artwork of my dodo bird series of paleo art. Here are a couple of dodos playing by the river. I picked Rivi Tamarin pretty much at random from a list of rivers on Mauritius. I don't know if dodos would have ever actually encounter the river or even if it existed back then (for all I know, it was created later by humans as an outflow for the Mare aux Vacoas, the largest reservoir on the island). I really just picked it to give the work a better name.
The brown dodo is especially interested by something in the flowing water. He isn't fishing. Dodos supposedly didn't eat fish. Apparently, their diet was primarily based upon fruit. Perhaps he just noticed his blurry reflection looking back at him.
I really like the way the landscape turned out on this one. I wanted to make plants and rocks look close. My goal was to make the viewer feel like they are sitting quietly on a rock in the middle of the river just watching as the dodos waddle up to the shore. So, everything needed to look like it was just a few feet away.
The dodos were built using Blender 2.5, everything else was done in Vue 9, including the final render. The render took about 3 days.

Another stunner! I like how the environment works together, there's so much going on I'm sure it was quite the labor of love to pull it all together. l/f
