Description
Dolphin X-ray. Technician examining a digital X- ray of a bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus), Navy Marine Mammal Program (NMMP), San Diego, USA. Dolphins are trained by the US Navy to detect underwater mines, deliver equipment to divers, locate lost objects, survey and guarding against intruders. The NMMP breeds all their dolphins in captivity and are trained from a very early age to perform tasks. Successfully completed tasks are rewarded with food. The US Navy also trains California sea lions, killer whales and beluga whales.
