Description
Dubitatio (Indecision)
The three doors at the back with symbols (heart, star, diamond) pertain to the doors of opportunities for love, fame and fortune. The last door with a rainbow is open. At the rainbow's end, they say, one can find a pot of gold. Each colored symbol (red, yellow, grey) is associated with a colored fruit. As the woman puts on a colored fruit , in this instance a grey fruit (fortune), on the hour glass, a respective same colored door opens. There is a limited time that this opportunity is available. As the sand runs out of the fruit, the corresponding door closes. Right now the woman is looking at love when the opportunity available is fortune. She is indecisive. At the back is a mask (thief) piercing through 2 doors. There is an expression that says "Indecision is the thief of opportunities". The woman has seemingly turned to stone for her indecisiveness. Plants with no fruits are symbols of opportunities that have passed.

I love this art work - it speaks to me...it's amazing!
Paul Hilario replied:
Thanks for your appreciation and comment Margaret :-) Glad that you love this painting and that it speaks to you. That is something that I always aspired for. I've always tried to achieve what a popular artist and art professor said about how to gauge the completeness of a piece. He said, in his Chinese accent, "Das yor penting tok?". And I can see that this one does :-) Thanks again.
