Description
Artcycle, Art by Casey Corbin, Paper Sculptor. People and Paper. “Artcycle” recycles rubbish that was destined to fill trash heaps and reconsiders it for art projects. Artist/counselor Casey Corbin says that his art parallels his professional life as a counselor. In both art and counseling he feels he is used to take Life’s discarded and turn them into something of value. Though it may look painted, there is no traditional use of paint. It’s all paper. Colored papers are carefully gathered and liquefied and artfully applied to the handmade paper “canvases.” From the frame to the finishing applications almost every component is recycled.
Nearly all the art is made from using the shredded paper from his counseling office. These pages were shredded to keep client’s information confidential. Think about that. Some hurting person comes into his office and tells him secrets that they have never admitted to anyone before. These hidden issues are typed on these papers. Their habits and hang-ups along with their history of mistakes and hurts are eventually resolved into something significant which results in the client being thankful to feel better. From ashes to beauty. Isaiah 61:3 “…and provide for those who grieve in Zion--to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor.”
