Description:

Earth:
This necklace is an artistic collaboration between fellow artsinri team member Tracy Prince of http://www.seafinddesigns.etsy.com and http://www.steppingstones.etsy.com and me. This necklace is part of a series called Earth and Sea. I have one set of necklaces in my shop and Tracy has another set in her shops. Tracy and I had so much fun creating these pieces. We hope you enjoy them. Since Tracy is a seaglass artist and she drills and carves beautiful sea stones it made perfect sense that we would use both of these materials and incorporate one of my boro glass beaded keys. This necklace is called earth. It features an old steel skeleton key with a borosilicate glass bead handmade in the flame of my torch directly on the key. The bead is a transparent orange with swirls of red and yellow. It measures 8mm in width and 3/4 inches in diameter. The key measures 2 3/4 inches in length. From the key I have hung charms made from stones and sea glass beads collected from the shores of RI and hand drilled by Tracy and semi-precious gems and a vintage glass bead. I have also hung two charms handmade by me using bronzclay which is a precious metal clay that sinters to pure bronze in the kiln. The charms have a beautiful swirled texture and colorful patina achieved using activated charcoal in the kiln. The necklace is strung on a 24 inch antiqued copper chain with a lock and key toggle clasp. The mix of found objects, stones and glass tumbled by the sea with the shiny new glass and the various metals is an earthy organic pleasure. It retails for $75 in my etsy shop www.venbead.etsy.com
