Ecuador Street Meat Vendors
Photograph - Photographic Artworks
Buying street meat in Ecuador is common, but also dangerous due to generally unsanitary conditions with minimal hand-washing. Skewers of chicken, beef, chorizo sausages, and often guinea pig, a local delicacy, are available.
This artwork is derived from a photograph taken Jan 6/13 during the Dia de los Inocentes parade on Av. Huanya Cápac.in Cuenca, Ecuador, South America nestled in the Andes Mountains. City officials expected about a thousand to participate in the parade with another 25,000 watching along the route. There were easily that many people there.
Like many of Cuenca’s festivals, the Day of the Innocents was originally a religious celebration that, over the years, took on the trappings of carnival. The event is intended as a remembrance of King Herod’s death sentence ordered for all Israeli new-born boys after the birth of Christ. The event is celebrated throughout Latin America.
