Effects of the Fugitive-Slave-Law. Four black men, possibly fugitive slaves, but also possibly free blacks, are ambushed by a posse of six armed whites in a cornfield. The Fugitive Slave Law of 1850 protected slave catchers and criminalized escaped slaves and those who aided them.
