Description
Elephant hawk-moths (Deilephila elpenor) resting on tree bark. Many long tubular flowers depend on this species for pollination since few insects have a sufficiently long proboscis to reach the deep base of the flower. The caterpillars feed on grape vine leaves and on Hypericum plants. The species occurs from Europe to Japan.
