Description
I wanted to paint and draw this elephant pose using three techniques or styles. The first was as a black and white, then as a three grayscale tints using gouache paint. And the third pen and ink where I used crosshatching to see if I could create the feel of contours and the form of the animal. I liked the idea of doing the elephant in a close up that showed more of his forehead and tusks. Then allowing the trunk to disappear at the bottom of the image and his ears disappearing off the sides of the artwork and yet still show the form of the animal. I liked the effect and thought the end results very dramatic and unique and yet capturing the size of the animal.
This is the pen and ink cross hatch version.
