I started listening to Elvin Bishop way back when he was a founding member of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band as a young child back in the 60's. The band laid the foundation of many bands to come.
Elvin started off on his own in the 70's and recorded what is probably his most commercially successful hit, "Fooled Around and Fell In Love" from the album Strutin' My Stuff.
It some point I lost touch with his music in a sense. Not listening to him directly for many years. But what I did listen to was probably a direct result of some of the ground breaking work that he accomplished.
In 1991 Elvin released the CD, Don't Let The Bossman Get You Down. I heard the title cut and knew I had been missing something. I bought the CD and have been listening to him ever since.
Elvin makes his home in Northern California and so he seems to play in the area often. I caught him on a hot July day at the Marin County Fair where the temperature reached 100 degrees. He didn't seem to mind the heat and out on a fantastic show. Now I try to catch him whenever I can and in my humble opinion, you should to.
