Empire Tract Ferry
Vanessa Hadady BFA MA
Painting - Acrylic On Treated Unstretched Canvas
North Stockton may be defined by Eight Mile Road that turns into Empire Tract Road when travelling west into the heartland of California's central valley farming regions. At the edge of the levy where Empire Tract Road meets Bacon Island Road near Little Connection Slough the road does not bridge the delta waters and the ferry is not always available to run, if even there! So, there I was, "stuck" in a beautiful expanse after driving some distance on terminally rough and sloped roads set at 25 mph due to eroded shoulders and pot holes. With fine golf courses and lux housing developments well behind, I had no problem relaxing at the quiet, remote and casual waterfront with my French plein air painting box and gear where Herman and Helen's Cafe offer some of the best and most peaceful views of delta waters through their panoramic windows. Casual visitors made me promise to return "in the winter" ... "when the waterfowl and the fog are unbelievably beautiful." Copyright (c) Vanessa Hadady
