Description
The Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest has served parishioners and residents of Abilene, Texas, since 1883. The mid-twentieth century church structure was designed by renowned church architect Philip Hubert Frohman--best known for his design of the National Cathedral in Washington DC. Beautiful stained glass baths the stone walls and columns in rainbow hues. The sanctuary evokes a strong sense of reverence and the presence of God amidst a congregation long committed to Christian service in the Abilene community.
I love photographing places of worship, imagining the stories lived within and without the sanctuary, recording the structural and artistic testimony to lives lived in community. If you find yourself in Abilene and the church doors open at Heavenly Rest, do yourself a spiritual favor and take a few moments for quiet reflection midst the stone and stained glass.
