A molecular model of estradiol, a sex hormone responsible for the growth of female reproductive organs and secondary sex characteristics. During puberty, estradiol levels increase in order to influence breast development, body shape, fat storage and skin development. Levels will also increase during pregnancy with the development of the placenta. Atoms are colored dark gray (carbon), light gray (hydrogen) and red (oxygen).
