Evelyn Nesbit The Girl In The Red Velvet Swing
Photograph - Photograph
The story of early 20th Century model and show girl Evelyn Nesbit is one of those tales that, if it were a movie script, would be hard to believe. However, there was a movie, based somewhat loosely on her life, "The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing". Seduction when a very young teenager, illicit love, insane multi-millionaire Harry Thaw's obsession, and murder of her lover, architect Stanford White, in public on the rooftop of Madison Square Garden by Thaw are the major parts of her life story. You can read about her in a very good account that can be found in the blog "Caviglia's Cabinet of Curiosities".
