Description
Fahr's syndrome is an inherited disorder characterized by abnormal deposition of calcium in the structures of the brain that control movement such as the basal ganglia and cerebral cortex. Age of onset is usually 40-50. Symptoms are those of neurologic deterioration involving motor control but also include dementia, seizures and headaches. The areas of decreased signal (dark) on this axial T2-weighted MRI image are areas of abnormal calcium deposition.
