The government recently authorized women to be in units that have combat roles . . . that's almost a laugh since our women have been in harm's way since the Bush era! By the way, a print of this painting, and a few others, will be on display in the Pentagon for a year. Our women are finally getting some of the recognition they deserve!

I did a lot of research on the internet trying to find the right subjects, and the right variety of subjects to use in the painting. Hi Bob! ...what a GREAT painting! ...I am a USAF veteran. I was in basic training in February 1981 and had to choose a career field. First, I applied to be a gunner, but then the paperwork came back saying that I was not allowed, since it was a combat position, and women were not allowed to be in combat. At first, I was pretty sad about that, but "it was what it was" so I just dealt with it. I ended up being a weather specialist and served in a top secret facility. Anyway, I applaud your wonderful rendering to depict womens' roles in the military during this time. Bravo! Thank you for your donation to help the community in Spartanburg. I hope you get lots of sales on this. I donated a painting I did of a Haitian child to help Compassion International. I miss the painting, but I hope it is helping the organization I donated it to. I tried to copy the page link here, but it would not work. If you want to see it, the name of the painting is, "A Smile for You from Haiti" and at this point, it is number 13 on my images page.
