At left is the early stages of acute salpingitis, with a more advanced case shown at right. At right, adhesions and scar tissue (white) are also seen, binding the ovary, uterus and fallopian tube together. bacterial infection. The ovary (white) of this Fallopian tube is also seen. The acute form is usually caused by a bacterial infection that may have spread from the vagina or uterus. Severe cases may result in infertility as the Fallopian tubes can be blocked by scar tissue. Salpingitis is treated with antibiotic drugs.
