Description
This is a Fancy Dancer, shown dancing in his fancy regalia, or outfit. The reason he is called a "Fancy Dancer" is because the style of clothing and the brightly colored feather bustles he wears in the back. They are not eagle or hawk feathers that the Traditional Dancers wear, instead they are brightly dyed turkey, peacock or other pure white (dyed) feathers, and they carry feathered whips- accentuating the movements in their lively dancing- and as a reminder of the old horse days, when the Indians' partnership with the horse was a catalyst that brought an entire brief culture into being- the horse culture of the Great Plains. I did this drawing in Jemez Springs.. New Mexico...This work is done with Prismacolor pencil on Bristol board.
