"Father Damien of Molokai 1840-1889
was a missionary priest of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary who served in Hawaii from 1864 to 1889.
He spent the last 16 years of his life heroically serving the Hansen's disease (leprosy) patients quarantined by the government to Kalaupapa on the island of Molokai.
Pope Benedict XVI declared him a Saint at the Vatican
on October 11, 2009."
