Description
Artwork describing the organs of the female reproductive system. In centre is the pear-shaped uterus (womb) which opens into the vagina (bottom) through the cervix. The ovaries, containing ovarian follicles (in red) are at left and right and connect with the uterus via the fallopian tubes. The finger-like projections at the ovarian end of each fallopian tube are called fimbriae. An oocyte (containing the female sex cell) released from a mature ovarian follicle passes along the fallopian tube and into the uterus, where a fertilised egg would become implanted and embryo development commence.
