Description
I had a lot of work to do today. There were three dead shrubs to be dug up and replaced, tall grasses to cut down, flowers to plant, weeds to pull and so much Spring clean-up after a long winter. Ohio had a rough cold winter, but we can't complain compared to much of the US. We seem to be jumping right from winter to summer, with hot weather and thunderstorms over the past couple of weeks. But today was a brisk fresh change from that! Sunny and in the 60s. Perfect weather for lots of gardening and yard work. I spotted a Black Swallowtail fluttery about quite hurriedly....much like I was. I took a moment to watch him and enjoy, but he was gone within just a few minutes, not even time for me to run in to get my camera.
After many hours, I finally packed up and headed in. When I got to the door, this beauty was waiting for me. It was resting just below the door and didn't move when I opened it to go inside. I grabbed my camera this time and hurried back out. I love the way her wings glisten in the light. This is a female Common Whitetail Skimmer Dragonfly. I am so happy that she waited to make my day in the garden another really special one. It actually seemed like a gift at the end of a long day!
