Festive Princes Street Gardens - Edinburgh

My earliest experiences traveling were all off-season in most respects. Although, I guess it's hard to call Edinburgh around Christmas and Hogmanay as not being in season. Certainly the hotels charge their in-season rates!
And for good reason as far as I can tell, Edinburgh may be cold in winter, but the streets come to life. There's a festive vibe in the air around Christmas and the New Year as the city has festivals to celebrate the season.
This is based off a scene from New Year's Day on my second visit to this beautiful city. The weather is hit and miss, but when it cooperates, it's truly a gorgeous city where even the "New Town" (seen on the left) along Princes Street has an old world European vibe to it. Of course, Old Town is positively medieval by comparison. You can get just a hint of it on the right of this picture.
I can't look at this cityscape of Edinburgh without a wistful sigh and a wish to return. If you've been to Edinburgh at all, especially over the winter holidays, I suspect this might call you back to that beautiful Scottish city!
