The harsh climate of the McCullough Peaks Herd Management Area is typical of a cold, high desert with annual precipitation averaging only five to nine inches. One of the most verdant areas at the HMA is along the shores of Dry Creek, an intermittent stream fed by winter snows and spring runoff. It is here that the mustangs of McCullough Peaks often gather at dawn and dusk to drink from the creek and enjoy the vegetation sprouting along its shores.
