Description
This piece was created, like in piece number 2 submitted, with a technique I am recently using for a certain body of works using a figure-eight technique. In it, the subject is rendered with the top of the eight diffusing and dissipating, transforming and coming apart at the top. The message of the piece is a shape that was once closed has been broken open and many possibilities are given - the twisting enclosed figure-eight is now being untied, like when you finally get that damn knot in your shoelace undone. Like a river or ocean current, things are always changing. The modern figure eight is a closed and infinite shape but in this piece it is fluently shredded open. As a volcano finally erupting as is the binding intertwining shape is broken. I also incorporate various curving surrounding lines to contribute to the flow and movement of the formation as it becomes a topless eight and is now in a whole new ballgame as they say. I simply let the overall shape of the piece flow, with everything relating to the same current: the twisting of the figure eight, along with the more loosely drawn surrounding lines.
