Aloha Joe, your beautiful work always speaks to my heart. It is wonderful to see the stately Saguaro silhouetted with the brilliant colours of a sensational desert sunset. I love how the woman's hair is blowing in the breeze, his wonderful headdress and their marvelous facial features. This piece is extraordinary, it is deeply spiritual and so multi-dimensional. And all one would really need to do is read this amazing commentary Bruce Combs has published here in his comments as he expresses his enlightened interpretation of your creative vision so eloquently and so perfectly. Beautiful and powerful work my friend.

Joe, thank you so very much for your kind commnets on my work.... suprisingly you chose a pencil drawing, when Colour is so important in your work. A Fascinating collection; I especially enjoyed reading your statement. I love this one but I find all your work intriguing. It is refreshing and very original. The fact that your subject matter is also of interest to me personally, and as you say "it chose you", is thrilling. Great work! :-) Lizzy

Brother Bruce,...I am at this moment so filled with emotion. I can not begin to tell you how you have touched my soul, my spirit and for that matter,........my life. Thank you, you have truly expressed with your words -- what I was feeling while painting "Finding Inner Peace". You my brother, are one of the like hearted. ........Joe

(Continued) And here, in this painting descriptively named a state few of us can even imagine: FINDING INNER PEACE. One man embodies in his breast, in his very heart, earth, sun and sky, one image unifying either/both the birth of a day, the setting sun ending a day -- and radiates this outward for all to see and feel, if they will. I think that his face, his eyes (the windows of the soul, according to one tribe's sayings) express both his own speechless wonder-full awe and an urgent need to express it, to communicate, to be understood. Perhaps, I woud say, part of that wish to communicate involves the idea that each individual -- whatever, wherever, however we live and do -- each human being must achieve that inner peace if s/he is to live in peace among members of a family and on up the scale: neighbor to neighbor, state to state, and finally, country to country. Oh but somewhere in there I left out all animals; that is, all living creatures; and all beautiful or potentially becoming so, rocks, waters, in short, peace without the body for peace within, and then vice verse, radiating it out, which is automatically a part of inner peace, I would guess. But to return from my personal rambling to Joe's painting: I absolutely cannot imagine being face-to-face in a room with even one of them! Let alone several at once! And just look again at all the comments above: how most that anyone can express beside abstract superlatives is their own feelings, their own inner reactions, how the painting touches them deeply within. Many of us, as we turn a page or walk away, will never be quite the same. Isn't that the greatest achievement an artist, in any medium, can strive and hope for?

Williamsburg, VA - United States

How have I missed this! What a masterpiece! And how can I add to these many expressions of praise and appreciation above? Especially I find Charles speaking my feelings about the painting, and so much of your work -- well, all of it! And Ingrid's that it would be a great Meditation piece. For, most of all, I was awe-struck, dazed, humbled, speechless by the radience of the whole painting. It was a while before I could begin to speak of it, to sort out and study and marvel at various elements of it. Which soon I realized was not only an impossibility for me but a misguided and only frustrating task -- was somehow simultaneously a blind and endless journey toward "explaining" -- toward even TOUCHING through analysis the spiritual splendor you have created here, Joe, and to some extent in all your works, I think, whether of bears or warriors or anything or any situation you have undertaken. For I believe you know, feel, experience in your guts, as very few of us people ever have, that there only is ONE situation. And your animals may achive it -- the raven -- ah! the bison, perhaps most of all the many bears: How when taken as a whole, as one symbol, they range from a superficial, a surface only skin deep of joyous clowning to their fierce and terrifying fury in their walk, their glare, in all their shouting body language! And the spirits embodied in your animals and in all your ultra-determined human figures (rather, mostly human faces and torsos), I think radiate this urgent unity, an unspeakable indescribable oneness, even from photos of them second hand on the internet. (Whoops! Space cops again! Continued).
