Finger Print Of The Wind
Photograph - Photography
Wonderful ripples in the white sand dunes of New Mexico, USA. The White Sands National Monument is located just West of the town of Alamogordo. It is a lovely area to visit and is very accessable. The sand itself is the whitest that I have seen other than on some of the beaches in the world. The plants that grow in the dunes vary from good size groups of vegetation to singular/individual plants. If one is fortunate enough the wind will have left these incredible patterns across the landscape. If one is even luckier there will be no footprints left by fellow explorers in the area that you wish to see and photograph. I shot this image in December 2012 and there were only a few people at the White Sands. The winds and even some rain added greatly to the features in the sand itself. One of the great things about this area is that there are mountains to the east as well as the west. For the photographer this is excellnt as you have interesting light with sunrises and sunsets as well as having an interesting background in your photo. The same situation occurs in Death Valley (Please see my Gallery on Death Valley) and this increases the interest in landscapes of the area. It is also best to visit either area when the weather is cooler and the crowds are at a minimum.
