Drawing - Pen & Ink Sketches
This is the first Illustration from the yet to be; self-published book, The Leopard & the Clay. The earth shudders into being.. as volcanoes like giant exhausts from tectonic engines expand the lands territory into the benign sea. In their wake a Garden of Eden arises warmed by an effervescent sun. Creation too awakes, yet the lines have not yet been distinctly drawn, as to whats alive & whats inanimate. All creation lives & communicates with one-another.
A rich pallet of primary colours exemplifies the innocence of the moment. A chaotic & frenzied line type adds a childlike quality. The landscape as depicted in the scene is actually taken from a photo of a rock pool near the artists family sea-side cottage, off the East Coast of Southern Africa. The highest volcano is perhaps a foot high in real life, of moulded granite pounded smooth by giant waves of Indian Ocean sea-spray.
