Description:

I painted this egg tempera painting after a recent rare snowfall in Georgia. I keep bird feeders outside my studio which attracts many different types of birds and squirrels. The cardinals are a regular staple here and when I started feeding them I had about 2 males. I'm up to about 12 males and about 14 females, 2 pairs of doves, quite a few wrens, titmice, some sparrows, a couple indigo buntings, golden finches on occasion as well as birds that I can't recognize. I captured this cardinal surveying the snowy landscape and I liked the way the leaves looked like flames which balanced out the bird.
