Description:
Flying Skulls is the third linoblock print of a large series I began in early 2008. Inspired by fellow New Englander Edward Gorey, I began the series as an exploration in to the macabre. Each original piece is worked up via numerous sketches and then hand optimized to best suit the hand carving needed to create the final block for printing.
Economically priced unsigned prints using computerized printing are also available on this page via Fine Art America's high quality printing and framing metods.
I plan to continue work on this series into the next year. The original work offered here will be an exclusive issue of prints from a limited edition run of only 200 prints. Each original 9" x 11" print (8" x 10" live area) will be hand-signed, numbered and dated. Each print is also supplied with a signed certificate of authenticity.
Block printing is a very old method of print making in which the art is created by hand carving a negative impression of the image into a wooden or linoleum block. The block is then coated with ink and used to print a positive impression of the image onto high quality paper. The nature of the medium creates deeply saturated, high-quality images in which no two are alike. Each print is as different as one person's fingerprint to another's.
