Orthoceras are extinct nautiloid cephalopods (mollusks) that lived on Earth more than 400 million years ago. The word, "orthoceras" means "straight horn", referring to the characteristic long, straight, conical shell which is visible in this exquisite piece. The preserved shell is all that remains of this ancestor of our modern-day squid.
You can wear this exquisite piece of natural history; carrying it with you, wherever you go! This well-preserved orthoceras fossil has been wrapped in 0.925 Sterling silver-filled wire. The fossil measures 47x15x9mm (or about 1.9" long) while the pendant, base-to-bail, measures 62x18x20mm (2.4" x 0.7" x 0.8"). Choose from either a 20" black leather cord or silver-plated chain which will be included with your order, along with an information card about the natural history of this fascinating organism!
