Painting - Acrylic On Canvas
This is based on the dunes at Satellite Beach, Florida. This is on the east coast across the road from Patrick Air Force Base. It is just south of Cocoa Beach.
It began as a gray foggy day. The sun burned off the fog slowly. The salty air thickened with humidity. Wispy clouds began to form. At first they were indefinite but as the day wore on, they began to merge into bigger masses. It was a hot summer day. The dunes are quite large and full of greenery. I noticed that the sand seemed fairly stable due to all the vines and grasses. The vines had yellow flowers with dark maroon centers.
As I worked on this acrylic painting, my son suggested that the scene needed a fox. I had heard that there were red foxes in the area. I wanted this to be primarily a landscape. I hoped to keep to this theme so I put the fox in the background where a little den would logically be.
This is a 24 by 36 inch gallery wrapped canvas. I enjoyed getting lost in the joy of designing the vines clinging to the dunes. It was a peaceful relaxing scene for me. The beach is always a healing place for me and so many others. It had been nice to get a bit of exercise walking around and exploring the dunes.
Although most of the action was on the far side of the dunes near the water, it was the landward side that interested me this time. I found the lighting a bit challenging since the light was fairly soft. I hope that the viewer can sense the gentle serenity.
