Description:

This is Frances Sweet Witt holding her pet hen, "Penny" on her front porch. The porch can be made of rougher, weathered wood. She has bloomers on and is barefoot as was her custom on a warm summer afternoon. She has on one of her Sunday go-to-church hats. Penny was well fed and well loved. Frances married Mr. Phil Reser here in Walla Walla, WA. The story was told of her getting cross with a rooster that was pecking at her and posturing. She took a pitch fork and pinned his head to the ground until he cooled off.
