Photograph - Photograph
Frederick Banting and Charles Best, with a diabetic dog they kept alive through injections of the hormone insulin. The two were the first to isolate insulin in the pancreas, making its collection possible to treat diabetes. They are pictured in the University of Toronto laboratories of Scottish physiologist, J.J.R. Macleod, who would share the 1923 Nobel Prize with Banting.
