Photograph - Photography
On recent trip to Gettysburg I used the image overlay function in my Nikon D-80 to merge these two photos into this one image. The first image is of Lincoln's bust which sits atop the Lincoln Address Memorial in the Soldiers' National Cemetery in Gettysburg Pennsylvania, The monument one of Gettysburg's most popular is a tribute to both Lincoln and his famous speech. The second image is of a section of Soldiers' National Cemetery where more than 3500 Union soldiers are buried. William Saunders designed the cemetery which was dedicated on November 19th 1863 less than five months after our nation's greatest battle.Mr Saunders design allowed space for a memorial to be built at a later date. The bust of President Abraham Lincoln was sculpted by Henry Bush-Brown and is situated in the middle of a low semi circular expanse of white marble. In a small way I intended my photograph as a tribute or acknowledement of the sacrifice
made by so many.
