FUND LAND AT McDONALD’S
By now, every city in the civilized world has one. In its endeavor to meet world acceptance, McDonald’s, under its golden arches, had created a utopian environment called “Fun Land.”
Sitting in McDonald’s one sunny morning sipping coffee, I momentarily looked out the plate glass window. There I witnessed what the early Greeks must have envisioned at the birth of democracy. Fun Land was brisk with the laughter and screams of little children in full pursuit of happiness. Children of all ethnic backgrounds played in an environment symbolic of a United Nation.
In Fun Land, no one is bored: no one is unhappy, and democracy prevails. It is only when parents remove their children from the confines of Fun Land and its brightly colored fence, silhouetted in the sunshine of life, that reality comes forth like a speeding car to steal the children’s smiles and joys of innocence.
