Description:
The easterly surrounding hills of Gabane painted during late summer rains. Just north of the South African border, these hills proved invaluable passage for exiles from Soweto to reach Lusaka in Zambia where the ANC had its Africa headquarters prior to liberation from white minority rule in South Africa. Since my earler visits here during the nineteen seventees, the region has grown, supplemented by a large expatriate community of entrepeunoural South Africans and refugees from Zimbabwe fleeing Robert Mugabe and his henchmen. Botswana has a small population of peace loving people living in tandem with tourist investment dollars from its southern border. The red earth here contrasted well against green foliage as a result of recent rains.
