Gale In My Salie
Painting - Acrylic On Canvas
Gale in My Sail
This 16 X 18 acrylic painting was inspired by a memory that made me the laughing stock of my home port in San Diego. Prior to buying my 36’ Columbia sailboat I had only sailed smaller boats, Hobie Cats, Lazars and racing cruisers. The first weekend out sailing towards Mexico there was a small craft warning. I ignored it thinking I was a Big Boat and didn’t have to worry. The size of the swells was the biggest I had ever seen in my life. Everything inside the galley flew out on to the floor. We were literally laid down on our side and still floated. When returning home a crowd ran out to greet me saying they had worried all night and asked why I did not seek shelter. I told them I thought I was a “Big Boat” not a small craft. I lived on my sailboat the next few years and I never did live down the blonde joke attached to my night spent with the Gale in My Sail.
