Ganesha The Hindu God
Painting - Acrylic On Cloth
The theme is based on mythology. Ganesha is a very important God in Hinduism and in all auspicious occasions he is the first to be propitiated for the success of the venture.
I did this art with acrylic on a silk cloth pasted to a board.
This art style is known as Pattachitra painting, a traditional art style of Orissa, India. The theme of the paintings are based on hindu mythology, inspired by Jagannath and Vaishnava cult. Patta paintings challenge the patience of the artist in the way they demand attention to minute details. Each painting of this size takes sometimes a couple of weeks to complete. The painter has to maintain rigidity in the use of colors and patterns, restricting the colors to a single tone. Vegetable dyes mixed with oil are applied as colors and the Canvas is a silk cloth (Tasara), stiffened and stretched with natural starch. Birds, animals, trees, human beings, all are painted but are two dimensional. This display of emotions of the figures expressed in the paintings is the center of attention.
