To say that the Garden of the Gods near Colorado Springs in Colorado is a free park with red rocks doesn't do it justice. It is unbelievably gorgeous and breathtaking. Evidence of past ages: ancient seas, eroded remains of ancestral mountain ranges, alluvial fans, sandy beaches and great sand dune fields can be read in the rocks formations.
The gorgeous scenery and easy access belies challenging, slabby, brittle sandstone that will test the grapes of any experienced climber, but the classic routes and occassional spectators (and the superhero feeling they invoke), will keep you coming back for more. Montazuma's Tower, Credibility Gap, Diesel and Dust, and Alligator Soup are highly recommended among climbers. Finger Traverse and Chatters make those who are not experts on a 5.7 and 5.9 feel embarrassed. Finger Traverse is called "the scariest 5.7 you've ever climbed".
Turn on, to nature. Tune in, to what is around you. Drop out, of the rat race for a bit. The beautiful rust colored orange formations with the grandeur of the Rocky mountains in the backdrop makes for a heavenly morning walk or a gorgeous afternoon stroll. Incoming rain and lightning strikes only make the scenery more exquisite.
