Description
This is my favorite of my paintings, and my vision for the direction I want to move further in. I am an animal lover; I love animals of all kinds, and they figure greatly in my internal imagery. My aim is to combine rendered, figurative animals with more naive and awkward painting marks, shapes and masses; and in this painting these things all work together for me, creating a rambunctious, irreverent and mysterious glimpse of something, like a dream. One thing you might notice is that the background/lefthand goat has, actually (kind of) the head and neck of a claw hammer. I like that about it.

Hey there back (still in Innisfail) hehe. Thanks so much Eileen ~ I do like, very much, your interpretation that my "paintings beat with a rhythm of primordial magic". That's so lovely. ¢¾ : ) Thankyou again! By the way, I do love goats for whatever reason (riotous characters??) not that I've ever owned or looked after one (one animal my parents never had on our mixed farm when growing up and had to look after/feed 'many' - mainly sheep, cattle, chooks, ducks, some horses, dogs and cats ...).

Thank you all - Helena, Todd, Van, Marlene - I'm glad you enjoy this! Mary Ellen, thanks for the explanation of your paintings - I enjoyed it.

Hey, Kerryn from Innisfail - thank you! I never acknowledged your lovely compliment, and I appreciate it very much. I love hearing my painting called a lyrical maze, and coming from someone whose own paintings beat with a rhythm of primordial magic, it means a lot.

Eileen, about two Maine Sail paintings, each year my sisters and I get together and put on a exhibit in Vermont called The Four Sisters;one of us chooses a photo and sends it to the others to be reproduced as they see fit. Never any consultation among us,we only seefinished the painting the night we hang the exhibit. I believe Jackie Mueller-Jones posted her version also. You may be interested in going to her page to view her version. It is an interesting experiment that we do every year.

Skip said something about art being like Deja Vu, This piece hits Me that way, like something I've always deeply known, a truth I've always had

Thank you, Shari!! Thinking about your words, rambunctious and mysterious, there's one more word I want to apply to this painting, and to this direction in my art: Irreverent. And I suspect THAT applies to goats, also!
