Going To Dumbarton House
This is the entrance to the sprawling Dumbarton House estate in Washington, D.C. It is reportedly one of the places Dolley Madison stayed when she fled a burning White House during the War of 1812. Dumbarton House (not to be confused with the nearby Dumbarton Oaks estate) was built around 1800 and is an example of Federal-style architecture (not that you can see the house from this skyward view). If you wish to go to Dumbarton House for a night or two as Dolley did, It is located on Q Street in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. (actually, you cannot stay a night or two, it is not a bed-and-breakfast, but you can visit the estate between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday). Perhaps it would have been better if I had photographed the house, but this is the shot I took (clearly my head was in the clouds that day). Good, that last statement makes sense, the photograph shows there were clouds in the sky that day.
