Description
I based this painting on a photo I took at the Wellfleet Bay Audubon Sanctuary on Cape Cod in February, 2012. Cape Cod generally enjoys milder winters than interior New England. That, combined with frequent storms that move up the coast means that it's possible to find an exotic blend of birds there. Golden-crowned Kinglets are native to the Boreal forests of northern New England and southern Canada. They're not that unusual in southern New England in the winter, but this one was feeding alongside a juvenile Lazuli Bunting - definitely a remarkable visitor. Completed in July, 2013.
