They can travel at 35 MPH if they decide you look tasty or appear a threat. The most important thing is to never stumble upon them unawares. When in bear country sing The Wabash cannon ball as you travel along so you do not surprise them.

What's more than can run 30 mph and puts them near the top of the food chain .

Everett, right a few minutes after capturing this shot the grizzly turned and stood straight up on its hind legs when a cyclist drew too close. Fortunately, the grizzly opted to not charge the rider.
