Description
Great Blue Heron steals fish from an unsuspecting cormorant. This little scenario started like a normal activity as the heron was flying in the opposite direction (from right to left) as I photographed him in flight. Suddenly, there was some noise, the heron and I made a rapid sharp left turn, the heron grabbed the fish and made a U-turn began flying away from the cormorant. The entire action was so fast (about 1 second) I wasn't sure that I had gotten any shots until I viewed the display on my camera and pleasantly surprised! There was a shot before and several after the catch, but they were not usable.

"The great blue heron (Ardea herodias) is a large wading bird in the heron family Ardeidae, common near the shores of open water and in wetlands over most of North America and Central America as well as the Caribbean and the Galpagos Islands. It is a rare vagrant to Europe, with records from Spain, the Azores, England and the Netherlands. An all-white population found only in the Caribbean and southern Florida was once treated as a separate species and known as the great white heron." --Wikipedia
