Description
Great diving beetle's foreleg. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the foreleg of a male great diving beetle (Dytiscus marginalis). At the tip of the leg are two claws. Along the length of the foreleg are sucker-like structures (green) and modified hairs. These adaptations are seen only in males, as they are used to clasp the female during mating.
