Description
Christiansborg Palace, or Castle, is located in central Copenhagen and is actually the third to be built on that site.
The palace is primarily the seat of the Danish government, housing the Parliament, Supreme Court and the Prime Ministers office.
Perhaps the Throne Room and The Great Hall are the most memorable of the palace rooms.
The Throne Room is where the Queen holds an audience with visitors and dignitaries. She also signs legislature approved by the Council here.
The Great Hall is where receptions, banquets and official diners are held, seating up to 400 guests. It is known for the large assortment of beautiful tapestries that adorn the walls recounting the history of Denmark. The seventeen tapestries are the work of artist Bjorn Norgaard and woven in Paris by Manufacture des Gobelins. They were gifted by the Danish business community to Queen Margrethe II on her 50th birthday in 1990 and finished and hung in 1999.
