If you visited the grocers a little over a hundred years ago, this is what it looked like. With the aid of a good stock boy, he could help you get the stuff at on the highest shelves. Which is good, because despite the cabinet doors opening on our side, the rails keep it from coming out and it can only be removed on the inside.
If you ever wondered what kinds of luxury foods people at back then, wonder no more. If it fits in a can, they will sell it. If it pickles or preserves, they will sell it. Want canned crabs? Got it. How about some nice canned shrimp? It's in stock, along with many other fish goods. Having a craving for lambs tongue? Sorry, your out of luck.... no wait, just kidding, they have that too.
Choose from a great variety of nuts and dried fruits, sardines, and olives, don't forget the vinegar!
The downside to having such a luxurious bounty, is carrying it home with you. There are no shopping carts, just baskets you can buy. Those baskets retail for about $25 or more today's prices, but as long as they took care of it, it probably lasted a long time.
