Harbinger Of Spring
Photograph - Photography
One of the first signs of Spring, in my garden, is the beautiful crocus. I love the purple ones, they are quite large and can be viewed from my window without going out in the cold. By February, I have Spring fever so bad that I am outside peering into the bulb beds to see if any of the bulbs are waking up. I even pull weeds to have an excuse to be out there. Sad, isn't it, but everyone deals with Spring fever in their own way. Please feel free to comment and share some of your Spring fever perks and quirks!
"Crocus (English plural: crocuses or croci) is a genus of flowering plants in the iris family comprising 90 species of perennials growing from corms. Many are cultivated for their flowers appearing in autumn, winter, or spring. Crocuses are native to woodland, scrub, and meadows from sea level to alpine tundra in central and southern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, on the islands of the Aegean, and across Central Asia to western China.
The cup-shaped, solitary, salverform flower tapers off into a narrow tube. Their colors vary enormously, although lilac, mauve, yellow, and white are predominant. The grass-like, ensiform leaf shows generally a white central stripe along the leaf axis. The leaf margin is entire. Crocuses typically have three stamens. The spice saffron is obtained from the stigmas of Crocus sativus, an autumn-blooming species."

Original raw image was taken in my back yard in Southern Oregon and was processed in Adobe Camera Raw.
Image taken with a Canon EOS 7D and and EF 100mmF 2.8L Macro USM lens @F4, s 1/250, ISO 100.
One layer of texture was applied by using layers in Photoshop CS6. Several non destructive tools, such as contrast and levels used to add a little excitement to the image and the final processing was completed with the Oil Painting filter to add more texture.
