Painting - Witon Oil Color On Canvas
"Hariet" means the house on the tree. This is one of the traditional house style belongs to native Papua population. This type of tree house only found in Ayamaru, my homeland. There are many different kind of tree houses found in Papua. Usually used far away from village, and built up on a hill about ten to twenty meters high - next to the garden in order to keep their garden from pest attacks or to protect it from the theft. All wooden pillars are not plugged in the ground, but strongly tied up to the branches of trees, the roofs made of wildly pandanus leaves. And the walls made of barks. This house tree belongs to my grandfather. About 60's metres away down hill was his taro garden.
