George Washington Carver (c. 1864 - c. 1943), was an American botanist and inventor who revolutionized agriculture practices in the Southern US. Booker T. Washington (1856-1915) was a writer and leader of the African-American community in the United States from the 1890s to his death. Harriet Tubman (1820-1913) was an African-American abolitionist, humanitarian, and Union spy during the American Civil War. She escaped from slavery and helped to free other slaves via a network of safe houses known as the Underground Railroad.
